'Lost Identity' By Airi Pung shows a faceless woman holding a mask in a renaissance styled image. Her head head appears to be made of wood, and it has a large crack running down the center. The woman lacks all features from a face to hair. The only way we see that she is a woman is because she is wearing very feminine clothing, and she has a feminine figure. Since the artist titled the piece 'Lost Identity,' and the woman has no face or features, the artist is saying that a persons face and features display our identity and without them we lose our identity.
A person's face is one of the most important signs of who they are. Almost every person looks in the mirror and sees their face and directly associate it with who the are. In your face you see characteristics of you parents, where your ancestors are from, and cultural cues from what you look like. People greatly identify with their parents because in a way you are them, much the same as your ancestors. Genetic traits much like traditions are passed down from generation to generation, and we pull our identity from both. The woman is also holding a mask possibly to try to cover up her lack of identity.
